McNamee nominates Ardvarna Crescent for street award

Victoria Alliance Councillor Laura McNamee has nominated Ardvarna Crescent for the Making The Difference Best Street Award with the Belfast Telegraph. She said that the community spirit and the recent efforts of local community in rallying round and helping those who were effectively trapped in their homes during the recent icy contortions.

Cllr Laura McNamee said: “Having worked in the East Belfast Alliance Office for the last 3 years, I have been privileged to assist numerous residents of Ardvarna Crescent with a broad spectrum of issues. One thing which is evident and central to all of those enquiries, however, is a tremendous sense of community spirit.

“One of the first enquiries which I had received from Ardvarna Crescent was a request for traffic calming – a resident had contacted us concerned about speeding on the nearby Circular Road, and the safety of some of their older and less mobile neighbours, in addition to those school children in the area who walked to school. The resident in question did not necessarily want traffic calming measures installed themselves, but purely for the benefit and improved road safety for their neighbours.

“Most recently, I have been contacted by residents in relation to the treacherous conditions of the icy footpaths and roads in Ardvarna, again, with particular regard for the more vulnerable residents who were effectively trapped within their homes. Having witnessed how the residents rallied round to help each other out, I can see that there is an excellent sense of community spirit and that the residents of Ardvarna Crescent are dedicated to helping one another and making improvements to the neighbourhood to be enjoyed by everyone.”
