McCarthy offers condolences following swine flu death

Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed his condolences to the family of child who died after they contracted swine flu last week. The child attended a special school for children with learning difficulties in Lurgan. A man was also diagnosed with swine flu last week

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I would like to extend my condolences to the family of this child at what must be a difficult time for them. No parent deserves to lose a child.

“I know many people had thought that the danger of swine flu had passed but this tragic death has shown that it still presents a threat.

“I would urge Health officials to ensure that this death is fully investigated to prevent any further outbreaks. I would also remind people that those that are eligible for a flu immunisation should ensure that they get it to protect them from a flu infection. It is vitally important that pupils at special needs school receive their vaccinations as this death shows they are vulnerable to the consequences from contracting swine flu.”
