The Alliance chief Whip said: “I totally condemn this shooting; acts such as this have absolutely no place in our society.
“I had hoped that this sort of crime would become a thing of the past, but unfortunately this is not the case.
“I think I speak on behalf of many who hope that the injured man makes a speedy recovery.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this shooting to contact the police as we can not let this sort of behaviour continue on our streets.”
