McAllister says no place for so-called punishment attacks after shooting

Alliance North Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister has said there is no place for so-called punishment attacks in our society, after a 17-year-old male was shot in the leg.

The shooting, which took place in Carlisle Square, was reported to the PSNI around 7.30pm tonight (Monday). The teenager’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“There is never an excuse for this sort of act and I condemn it unreservedly,” said Councillor McAllister.

“Only last month, we saw a man killed after a paramilitary-style attack in North Belfast. The people taking the law into their own hands need to stop – local people have had enough.

“Those behind this attack must face the full force of the law and I would encourage anyone with information about it to contact the police.”
