Dickson says culture of violence developing in Belfast after three shootings in 24 hours

Alliance Justice spokesperson Stewart Dickson has said a “culture of violence” is rapidly developing in Belfast after the third shooting in 24 hours led saw a man killed in the west of the city.

Dan Murray, a takeaway delivery driver, had been taking an order to Lady Street close to the Grosvenor Road, when he was shot around 10.15pm yesterday (Monday). It followed two shootings in North Belfast the same day.

Mr Dickson said he was shocked and horrified by the incidents.

“I totally condemn these incidents, one of which has led to the death of a man on our streets. There can never be any justification for shooting another person.

“Certainly three shootings in the space of 24 hours gives the impression of a growing cycle of violence in Belfast, whether any connection exists or not between them. The thugs behind them need taken off our streets immediately.

“I would urge anyone with information about any of these incidents to contact police immediately, so these cold-blooded individuals can face justice.”
