East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed the announcement from Firmus gas that their gas prices are to be frozen until October of this year at least, saying: “This is a very difficult time for homes and businesses and this is a small but significant step. This will be very welcome news for businesses at a time of economic instability and a time when some energy markets are facing real pressures.
“This freeze announcement is particularly positive given that the utility regulator recently said consumers should expect significant gas price rises from April.
“Fuel poverty is a massive issue and people are really finding it difficult at present to make ends meet. Anything to alleviate this pressure is a positive step.”
