Lyttle says government should expand Steps to Work programme

Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has said government must put more resources into expanding the Steps to Work scheme to meet high demand in some areas. He also praised the scheme an encouraged anyone who is out of work to consider taking part. His comments come as it was revealed that the waiting list for the programme at South Eastern Regional College is five times what it used to be.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This is a very worthwhile scheme and I would like to see government expanding it to meet increased demand for it.

“Give the current economic climate schemes like this that help people back into employment are a vitally important both to people here and to our economy. Government needs to consider putting more resources into trying to attract more employers so that more places can be created on the programme.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage more companies to become involved and encourage anyone who is out of work to consider enrolling in Steps to Work.”
