Lunn condemns attacks on PSNI in Londonderry

Alliance Policing Board member Trevor Lunn has condemned attacks on the PSNI in Londonderry, following an earlier security operation in the area.

Officers were pelted with bottles and stones while in the area as part of a follow-up operation after Sunday night’s dissident republican bomb attack on a police patrol in the Creggan Heights area.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I am absolutely disgusted by these reckless attacks on the PSNI. The Police are there to protect the community and there can be no justification for any attack on them.

“Officers were in the area following an attack on them on Sunday night – a callous attempt to kill or maim police officers, who were simply trying to do their job to protect the community they are tasked to serve.

“Those responsible for these attacks will not succeed in dragging society back to the dark days of the past and I again call on them to stop. I would urge anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
