Councillor Michael Long said: “This was a despicable assault and those who carried it out need to be brought to justice.
“This was a brutal attack and must have been an extremely traumatic experience for the young victims. I hope they make a full recovery and I call on anyone with information on the attack to contact police and help them with their investigation.
“Incidents of this nature send fear throughout an area and a small number of thugs must not be allowed to disrupt the life of the community.”
