Lo says joined-up working vital to boost skills

Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has said that government, employers and voluntary organisations must work together to maximise training and employment opportunities for young people. Her comments come following the publication of a report on behalf of the Prince’s Trust regarding the impact of generational unemployment on a young person’s opportunities for employment.

Anna Lo MLA said: “We need to make sure everyone has an opportunity to learn new skills and make the most of the opportunities available in Northern Ireland . We must provide people with the best future possible through education and training to deal with unemployment and strengthen our economy.

“I also want to see the publication of the inter-departmental strategy to ensure that more young people are in education, employment or training. Government, voluntary and community organisations and employers must work closely together to ensure the most effective strategy is in place to reduce the barriers that young people face in entering employment and taking up education opportunities.

“This is about giving people the best opportunities in their career and in their life, and we must invest and ensure joined-up work to maximise these opportunities.”
