The South Belfast MLA said: “This is sad news that another young woman has been brutally attacked.
“It is also worrying that an attack took place in a student area where there would have been people out and about in the early hours of the morning.
“We need to make sure that our streets are safe to walk but with attacks such as this it appears that we have more work to do. I would urge all young women to use caution when they are out at night and not to walk by themselves and to follow other precautions.
“My thoughts go out to the victim and I would wish her a speedy recovery from her ordeal.
“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to call the police and bring this man to justice and take him off the street.”
