Hendron calls for Executive measures to help people losing jobs at engineering firm

Pottinger Alliance Councillor Maíre Hendron has expressed shock at news that potentially 75 jobs are to be lost at an engineering firm based on the Ravenhill Road in Belfast. Scott ElectroMech manufactures electric motors which are used around the world, and the Alliance Councillor stated that measures are implemented to assist those affected by the cutback to gain alternative employment.

Cllr Maíre Hendron said: “This news is a real blow to the community in the area. Recently we have been hearing a lot positive news about the economy and that good news must not let the Executive forget about those who are affected by devastating job losses like this.

“These employees are highly skilled in engineering and the Executive must look to put in place measures to help those affected by the cutbacks in to new employment.”
