David Ford said: “I know that the vast majority of local people will be horrified by this attack on a paramedic whose work involves serving the people of Antrim and further afield.
“The attack must be condemned in the strongest possible terms: there can be no excuse of any kind.
“Health staff are on the front line, and their job is difficult and challenging enough without being subjected to such attacks. I believe that consideration should be given to enhanced sentences for those found guilty of attacks on public servants.”
