Neeson shocked at HMS Caroline decommissioning

Alliance MLA Seán Neeson has expressed surprise at the early decommissioning of the ship, HMS Caroline, which is currently based in Belfast. Seán Neeson represents Northern Ireland on the UK National Historic Ships Committee and is also a member of the Nomadic Charitable Trust.

East Antrim MLA Seán Neeson said: “The decommissioning was not expected until next year, however, it is vital that this most important historic ship remains in Belfast. The ship is on the core collection of National Historic Ships and we are fortunate in Northern Ireland that she is joined by the Nomadic and the schooner Result.

“I believe that this provides an opportunity for us to develop a major maritime museum at the Titanic Quarter.”
