Dickson presses Minister on sectarian graffiti and flags

Alliance Regional Development Spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has press the Regional Development Minister on the issue of tackling sectarian flags and emblem. He submitted a question to the Minister, Danny Kennedy, on the issue and has received an answer from the Minster.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I welcome the Minister’s statement that he does not approve of or support the flying of sectarian flags or the placement of such emblems on departmental property.

“The minister says it needs to be dealt with sensitively – I believe it also must be addressed robustly. We need to see the police being given the full backing of the whole community and all political representatives when decisions are made to remove sectarian graffiti and flags.

“I join with the Minister in welcoming the review which is ongoing, through OFMDFM, and I am pleased the Minister has stated that Roads Service will be participating fully in this review.

“Any form of harassment or sectarian behaviour cannot and must not be tolerated. We need to create a genuinely shared future with the whole of Northern Ireland being a shared space.”
