Alliance East Belfast Councillor David Armitage has condemned those responsible for an attack on two Eastern European men in East Belfast which the Police are describing as a hate crime. The two men were attacked by a group of youths on Connswater Link on Tuesday night at 11pm. One man received injuries to his face while the other suffered a cut to his hand.
Cllr David Armitage said: “This was a despicable attack that cannot be justified. We must look to build an open and welcoming society where there is tolerance of people from all backgrounds.
“Nobody deserves to be the victim of this sort of crime. I would like to send out my best wishes to these two men. This incident does not represent the local community, who I know will come out in opposition to what occurred.
“Those responsible must face justice in the courts, so I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police.”
