Alliance condemns Belfast fires and states that these incidents harm local economy

Former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Tom Ekin, has hit out at those who set fire to two buildings in Belfast last night. He stated that these attacks will damage the local economy. The two buildings are located in Corporation Square adjacent to the Sealink terminals, and the incidents took place at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.

The Balmoral Alliance Party Councillor said: “I am shocked and disgusted that someone has deliberately set fire to these buildings. Those involved showed total disregard for the safety of anyone in the area. I cannot comprehend why anyone would want to commit such an act.

“This attack has further harmed the image of Belfast and will deter businesses that are contemplating coming to Northern Ireland. It is disgraceful that as local politicians strive to cut corporation tax to attract investment and boost the local economy, we see these attacks in Belfast.

“We are trying to build a stable society which upholds the rule of law. Such acts of destruction have no place in this society.

“I appeal to anyone with information to come forward and talk to the police so that the thugs who carried out this arson attack can be swiftly brought to justice.”
