Where is Minister’s waiting list strategy, asks Bradshaw

Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw has called on the Health Minister to publish her strategy for tackling waiting lists, a move she said she would do before the end of January.

South Belfast Assembly candidate Ms Bradshaw received the pledge from the Minister in the Assembly chamber a week ago, when Michelle O’Neill stated “I said I would publish it before the end of the month and I am still on course to do that.”

Ms Bradshaw said she was disappointed the Minister had not followed through on her word.

“I understand Sinn Fein are entirely focused on the impending election, however, Michelle O’Neill remains in post as Health Minister. Therefore she has responsibility for putting in place mechanisms for reducing the time the thousands of people across Northern Ireland are having to wait on consultations, treatment and surgery.

“When the Minister produced her Delivering Together road-map for creating health transformation and addressing issues such as waiting lists, Alliance pledged our support for the approach, provided there were no unjustified delays.

“I feel it is for the Minister to now explain to those on the waiting list why she failed to produce her strategy and therefore cause more delays.”
