A new Belfast Bikes station is set to be located at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, after years of lobbying by local Alliance Councillors Michael Long and Eric Hanvey.
The plans are one of four new stations agreed by Belfast City Council tonight, with the local success coming on the back of collaborative cross-party working with the Green, DUP and SDLP representatives for the area.
Councillor Michael Long said: “For far too long Lisnasharragh has lost out on the provision of Belfast Bikes, which Alliance has backed from the beginning.
“We have campaigned for new stations to link the Ormeau Road stations to the Comber and Connswater Greenways, with his new location at the leisure centre on Montgomery Road helping to kick-start this process.”
Councillor Eric Hanvey continued: “We want to see new stations at locations like the Cregagh Road and Kingspan stadium so that we can have a good network of bikes across the South and East of the city.
“We will continue to lobby for improved cycling infrastructure which has fallen far short of the huge demand but are pleased that this is a positive step forward for cyclists in Lisnasharragh.”
