Speaking after the Council meeting the Mayor Billy Webb said: “I feel that this is the right decision and one which will produce the best possible results for the people of our borough. By working together much can be achieved and I thank the elected members for the spirit of co-operation which has been shown in reaching this agreement.
“As politicians there will always be issues which challenge us, but it is vital that we continue to build on the positive relationships already established within our Council Chamber. Along with my colleagues I look forward to the next stage in the process which will see independent members recruited to the Partnership.
“The establishment of Policing and Community Safety Partnerships shows Northern Ireland policing issues being discussed by Northern Irish people. It further demonstrates the benefits of having a local Minister making decisions on our policing set up.”
