Councillor Webb was speaking after an elaborate hoax was discovered in Abbeydale Close, forcing the closure of parts of the Shore Road and M5 for several hours, as well as affecting Translink services. The object has been removed for forensic testing.
“This alert took place at the height of morning rush hour on what are incredibly busy roads, so there was immense disruption caused,” said Councillor Webb.
“I am disgusted by the people behind this. This sort of behaviour has no place in our society and those people who caused this alert need to stop their mindless actions. They clearly have no respect for the lives and wellbeing of others.
“I would appeal to anyone with information on this incident to contact the police immediately.”
