We need a comprehensive process to address the needs of victims

Following news that the government has ruled out an inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane, Alliance Justice Spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has said it is vital that party talks are convened urgently to deliver a comprehensive process to address the needs of victims and survivors of the troubles.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Pat Finucane at this very difficult time. It is absolutely vital that we put in place a comprehensive process which enables the needs of victims and survivors to be addressed.

“We need talks to be urgently convened between the parties here and the British and Irish governments to find a coherent way forward to deal with the legacy of the troubles. Alliance has been leading the push for talks and this week we had a motion on the issue successfully passed at the Assembly.

“We need a comprehensive process in place so that there is a clear way forward for dealing with the past. It is crucial that we agree an overarching strategy, instead of having a fragmented approach, so that we can address the needs of victims and survivors and help us build a shared future.”
