Clarke welcomes £5.1 million investment for Down

Alliance Newcastle Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £5.1million for maintenance schemes in Down District this year.

At the meeting of the Down District Council External Affairs Committee on Monday 10th, Roads Service presented their quarterly interim progress report to Down District Council.

Councillor Patrick Clarke welcomed a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently under construction and planned this year in Newcastle.

Councillor Patrick Clarke stated: “The recent investment of £5.1million for maintenance schemes across Down District this year is very much needed due to a wide range of improvement and maintenance schemes underway or already complete in the Down District.”

“I am pleased to note the introduction of gateway features in Maghera and Bryansford villages outside Newcastle have now been completed. Both villages will benefit greatly from these recent traffic calming measures as part of the ongoing maintenance programme by Roads Service.”

“These schemes have provided enhanced road signage and speed cushions and high friction surfacing within the area. In addition, resurfacing has been completed on the A2 Dundrum Road, Newcastle.”

“I am also pleased that Roads Service has adopted a number of completed housing developments in Dundrum and Newcastle.”

“With current indications that funding for resurfacing and minor improvement works will be very limited next year, the recent investment by Roads Service of £5.1million into maintenance schemes across Down District this year is to be welcomed.”
