Tough decisions likely on health and sharing services

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has said it is very likely that tough decisions are ahead in relation to our health system and he emphasised the need to further examine North-South sharing of health services to help make the most of our public finances.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “It is very likely that some tough decisions are ahead in relation to our health system and we need to be pro-active and innovative in our approaches to delivering vital services.

“I would encourage the Health Minster to examine all possible oppportunities in relation to North-South sharing of services. This is a very positive option which holds much potential as regards delivering value for money.

“We have an excellent example of the potential for cross-border sharing of services in the planned radiotherapy unit at Altnagelvin Hospital and I hope that this provides inspiration for examining this matter.

“We need to be radical in our approaches to help make the most of the precious resources we have and cross-border sharing of services could really help as we look to deliver as much as possible for the money we have.”
