Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has said that Sinn Fein and DUP need to get back to work now because many people rightly believe that these parties do not provide value for money with the Stormont Executive failing to meet for over four months.
Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “Many people now believe that Sinn Fein and the DUP are a waste of public money because the Executive has not met for over four months. It is hard to disagree with this sentiment.
“They have a golden opportunity in government to improve Northern Ireland for everyone and alleviate the problem of rising living costs. However, they won’t even meet, let alone act. It is nothing short of shameful.
“Alliance, as the opposition, is providing radical thought on tackling fuel poverty and improving vital services by ending segregation. Sinn Fein and the DUP are doing nothing positive for Northern Ireland at the moment.
“Direct rule was atrocious and abysmal but amazingly, Sinn Fein and the DUP failures almost make it look effective. They need to make Stormont work or let other parties take over, because there must never be a return to Direct Rule.
“I don’t think that Sinn Fein and the DUP will ever realise that their shadow boxing on policing and justice is the very least of the public’s concerns. Spiralling living costs are hitting everyone very hard and the least the Executive should do is meet to tackle this issue.
“Sinn Fein and the DUP need to prove that they can make their government work because at the minute the public believe they are a total waste of money.”
