PSNI Survey Welcomed

Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has welcomed the publication of an opinion poll survey indicating that around 80% of those surveyed had confidence in the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Cllr Campbell, a member of Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership, said: “This survey has concluded that nearly four out of five people of those surveyed had some, a lot or total confidence in the ability of the PSNI in relation to their policing service. The survey also indicates growing support for the police among Catholics and illustrates the degree of success following on the hard work of the PSNI in seeking community support. I welcome the fact that the Policing Board is seeking to improve on these statistics.

“My experience locally and in working as a member of the Newtownabbey DPP is that the Police are very responsive to local concerns and needs. If Sinn Fein is seeking a place in a democratic society it must learn that there can be no room for those who wish to have an input into policing but would prefer a semi detached approach to the issue. It will be interesting to see if following its internal consultations on the issue of policing whether Sinn Fein will be prepared to provide information leading to those behind the murder of Robert McCartney and the robbery of the Northern Bank. “
