Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “It is simply horrific that something like this could happen in a quiet town like Newtownards.
“No-one wants the spectre of the troubles to raise its ugly head again and Northern Ireland must not be prevented from moving to a totally peaceful future.
“The nature of this attack has caused great concern in the town. That part of the town always very busy so I would appeal for any witnesses to come forward to police.”
