Newtownabbey Mayor welcomes new school building

Newtownabbey Mayor Lynn Frazer has welcomed the official opening of a new building for Hill Croft Special School. The building, which cost £5.6 million, was opened by Education Minister Maria Eagle. Lynn Frazer called on education boards to prioritise special educational needs funding, not threaten to cut it.

The Alliance Councillor said: “I am please to see the opening of this new building for Hill Croft Special School.

“This new school will provide a boost to local children and parents alike. The school, the facilities and resources are vitally important to those who attend and I am sure they will meet the needs of everyone.

“It is of paramount importance that the government and education boards invest in providing excellent facilities and resources for children with special educational needs.

“Recently, the South Eastern board threatened to cut funding for special educational needs. This funding must be prioritised, not put under threat.”
