New Commissioner for Older People welcomed by Lyttle

Alliance Older Persons spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has welcomed the appointment of a new Commissioner for Older People.

The East Belfast MLA and Deputy Chair of the Committee for the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) was speaking following the unveiling of Eddie Lynch in the role, which is designed to promote and safeguard the interests of older people. Mr Lynch is the former CEO of charity Age Sector Platform.

“I have worked closely with Eddie Lynch over a number of years in his role as CEO at Age Sector Platform, and he is a dedicated and effective voice for the empowerment of older people in our community,” said Mr Lyttle.

“He has been instrumental in developing the extremely effective Pensioners Parliament, which is vital to giving older people a platform for engagement with elected representatives. There are a wide range of issues we need to address, like fuel poverty, health and social care, transport, and OFMDFM’s failure to deliver anti-age discrimination law, and I look forward to working with the new Commissioner to achieve better for older people.

“I would pay tribute to Claire Keatinge for her outstanding work as outgoing Commissioner for Older People and wish her the very best for her future endeavours.”
