Seán Neeson MLA said: “These measures are welcome and I hope they will make the bidding process easier for construction firms.
“We do, however, need more action from the Stormont Executive to assist building firms by creating a sustainable economy strategy. There is much potential for boosting the economy whilst protecting the environment, for example through creating new home insulation schemes. Such schemes would help lower heating bills while providing new work within the construction sector.
“Whilst today’s moves are welcome, we urgently need to see a sustainable strategy created to deal with the downturn. Alliance has already launched a green economy policy and we would like to see the Executive putting such a strategy into practice..
“The Executive must push forward as many infrastructure projects as possible in Northern Ireland now, as this will also assist building firms at this extremely difficult time.”
