The East Antrim Assembly Member said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this body, especially as I have represented Northern Ireland’s interests on the National Historic Ships Committee for four years.
“One of the main tasks of the Advisory Committee on National Historic Vessels is to identify ships of historic importance and include them in the core collection of national historic vessels. This helps them gain lottery funding for their maintenance.
“There are already two ships in Northern Ireland in this core collection category, the HMS Caroline and the schooner Result.
“I would now hope that the Nomadic will be given this status so that it can qualify for Heritage Lottery funding to help in its restoration.”
