Naomi Long has expressed outrage at a pipe bomb attack in East Belfast.

Long condemns those behind security alert

Alliance East Belfast Westminster candidate Mrs Long was speaking after the incident in Island Street in the early hours of today (Friday), in which a viable device was thrown into the garden of a property. Residents were evacuated from their homes, with a local community centre being opened.

“This incident was a reckless attack in a highly populated area that could have easily caused serious injury or even death,” said Mrs Long.

“Those behind it showed no concern about people in the property or neighbours close by.

“There can be no justification for this attack. There is no place in our society for those who wish to use violence.

“I would encourage anyone with information on this incident to contact police immediately.”
