Councillor McNamee said the actions were “wanton acts of destruction”.
“The people who carried this out have nothing positive to add to society and they are simply committing damage for the sake of damage.
“Adshel, who maintain the shelters, are going to have to spend thousands of pounds to get this fixed and in the current economic climate that is money that could have been spent elsewhere.
“The shelters are used by schoolchildren and other members of the public, and broken glass lying around them could have led to an even more serious situation. I would call on those who destroy public property to think again about the consequences of their actions.”
