McIntyre shocked by Lisburn racist attack

Alliance Lisburn and Castlereagh Councillor Aaron McIntyre has condemned those responsible for a racist attack on a 35 year-old man who had obscenities shouted at him before he was assaulted on the Lagan Towpath in Lisburn on Saturday around 3.30pm.

Councillor McIntyre said “This is a disgusting attack on an innocent man. There is no place for hate crimes in our society and the thugs behind this attack do not represent the people of Lisburn or the wider population. The Lagan Towpath is a shared space used by families, dog walkers, cyclists and more. It is a shared space and everyone should feel safe while using this route.

“As a community we need to send out a united message that we will not stand for hate crimes, nor will we be intimidated by those who seek to create tensions in our area. I wish to thank those who aided the victim after this attack and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

“I would urge anyone with any information on this attack to contact the Police, or alternatively phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
