McDonough-Brown: Hate crime attack shows need for fully resourced Racial Equality Strategy

Alliance South Belfast Councillor Emmet McDonough-Brown, has condemned a hate crime that occurred overnight on Ulsterville Avenue in which a car and house was damaged. A bottle was thrown at the living room window and then flammable liquid was poured over the car before it was set on fire.

Cllr Emmet McDonough-Brown said: “This was a horrendous experience for these two families. Belfast welcomes people from around the world who make this city their home, and the community unites in support of these families. Their contribution to our city enriches it culturally, economically and socially and stands in contrast to the cheap thuggery of the attackers.

“This latest attack has yet again shown why the Racial Equality Strategy must be implemented in full and given the resources it requires to prevent this type of crime.

“Those responsible must face justice in the courts for their actions. If anybody has any information about this attack then I would urge them to contact the Police.”
