Alliance Councillor Emmet McDonough-Brown has become Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, after he was selected by his Council colleagues on Monday night.
The Councillor for South Belfast said he was ‘delighted and proud’ to have backing of his party, for a role he will take on for the next 12 months.
He added: “I’m absolutely delighted to be taking on this role and look forward to working closely with the Lord Mayor in the year ahead to highlight the best of Belfast.
“Over the past year I’ve watched Councillor Nuala McAllister showcase Belfast on the global stage as an open, welcoming and inclusive city ready to do business with the world – signalling the impact positive politics delivered by Alliance can have.
“I hope to work collectively with everyone in the Council chamber on the issues which affect all of us. We have a duty to maximise inclusion across the city. That is a challenge I am looking forward to and one which I hope to meet, in order to better the city I love.”
