McDonald: Community is united against brutal murder

Mid Ulster Alliance spokesperson Michael McDonald has extended his sympathies to the family of David Black, the prison officer brutally murdered on Thursday morning.

A Cookstown resident, Mr McDonald said those responsible must be brought to account and will not succeed in pulling Northern Ireland back into the past.

Mr McDonald said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of David Black and my sympathies are with them at this terrible time.

“Those responsible will be bought to account for this senseless murder and I appeal for anyone with information to assist the PSNI in whatever way they can.

“David Black was a well respected member of the community, doing nothing more out of the ordinary than providing for his family.

“At the last elections the people of Cookstown resiliently voted to support our political institutions. Those intent on trying to undermine that resilience through such callous acts have no mandate, or support in our close nit community.

“Their only achievement is in uniting people in condemnation of this brutal murder across all walks of life and political affiliations.”
