McCarthy says Poots only picks and chooses who he fires

Alliance Health spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has criticised the decision of the Health Minister who has fired Lily Kerr, a member of the Health and Social Care Board, who is also Chair of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council after she emailed documents to journalists and unions.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “It appears that Edwin Poots just picks and chooses who he fires. Lily Kerr has been doing a great job and her actions caused no harm to patients. I can not understand why she has been sacked when others who have done far worse have not been fired.

“We have seen several incidents in the past year where patients whose deaths could have been prevented by those in charge. We have also seen poor management decisions that has caused problems with the retention of documents and paperwork. Yet none of them were removed from their posts.

“I am very disappointed that Lily has been sacked and I hope that the Minister reconsiders this decision.”
