McCarthy praises gritting efforts and says Executive must examine resources

Alliance Kieran McCarthy MLA has said that the Stormont Executive must take account of the expected continuation of adverse weather conditions and ensure as many roads as possible are gritted. He also praised the good work of Roads Service staff at this difficult time.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “These adverse conditions are expected to continue for some time and I would like to see the relevant Executive Ministers taking account of this information and doing more to keep roads passable. The Stormont Executive must address this matter and allay the fears of road users across Northern Ireland.

“I want to pay tribute to Roads Service staff who have been battling the elements day and night throughout Christmas and the New Year to keep as many roads open as their budget and resources allow for. Executive Ministers must examine these resources and if necessary make extra provisions to ensure people can get to work, children can go to school and everyone can get on with their everyday lives. Other people who suffer at this time are those who depend on carers and live on untreated roads that are difficult to access.”
