McCarthy: Poots is not doing enough for Royal Victoria Hospital

Alliance Health spokesperson, Kieran McCarthy MLA, has said that the Health Minister Edwin Poots is not doing enough to resolve resource problems at the Royal Victoria Hospital. It has emerged that two patients were waiting over 25 hours to be seen at the Accident and Emergency.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “This is the latest in a number of problems that the Royal Victoria Hospital has faced due to staff shortages. It is shocking that somebody could be waiting over 25 hours to be treated at a hospital.

“While the Health Minister has allocated 40 extra nurses, this will not be sufficient to completely resolve all the problems. I do not think he is doing enough for the Royal Victoria Hospital. He must take urgent action to ensure that there is no repeat of these incidents.

“I would like to commend all the staff at our hospitals. They are doing an outstanding job despite the staff and resource shortages.”
