McCarthy disgust at news of no DCAL funding for Special Olympics Ulster

Alliance Culture Arts and Leisure Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has said he is disgusted at indications that Special Olympics Ulster will not be getting any funding from DCAL. At the committee yesterday it was indicated that DCAL would not be providing funding for Special Olympics Ulster and Kieran McCarthy posed a question on the issue.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I am disgusted at this and am deeply concerned at the refusal of the department to fund the Special Olympics Ulster.

“While I would like to see other departments helping out with funding, DCAL should be providing assistance. DCAL has been funding Special Olympics Ulster and to lose this funding would be a massive blow.

“This is an important initiative and it must be supported so that it can continue to operate in the future.

“While I acknowledge that this is a difficult time financially, every effort must be made to find the money to keep this excellent initiative well resourced.”
