McCarthy disappointed about screening delay

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed frustration at news that a bowel cancer screening project will be delayed saying the service is a vital defence in the battle against cancer. The delay comes because the cost of the swine flu vaccine is impacting on other services.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer death factor for men and the third for women. This screening project is an important weapon in the war against cancer and it’s deeply frustrating that this important project is going to be delayed.

“The swine flu vaccine is essential and our budget is tight, but I want to see the Executive being responsive enough to be able to deliver the vaccine and maintain such key services.”
