McCarthy condemns homophobic attack

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has condemned the homophobic attack on two men on Saturday morning in Londonderry who said that they were only attacked because they were gay. The two men suffered cuts and bruises to their faces.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “I am outraged that people believe that attacks like this are justified because of someone’s sexuality. The thugs behind this attack offer nothing to our society.

“The local community must show that homophobia is not acceptable anywhere. The vast majority of the public have already showed this by voicing their condemnation of this attack.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police.”
