Lyttle condemns bogus policeman burglary

Alliance’s Chris Lyttle, who has been selected to replace Naomi Long as MLA for East Belfast, has condemned the burglary in East Belfast on Sunday morning, in which a woman let in one of them mistakenly believing he was a policeman. The man then let in three other men to the house on Connsbrook Avenue and proceeded to tie up the woman before making off with a set of keys.

Chris Lyttle said: “I am shocked at the callous nature of this burglary. This was a cowardly crime carried out against a woman in her own home. I offer my full support to this lady and her family at this time.

“The public must be vigilant to any such attempt to gain entry to their house. If the person who knocks on your door is a genuine police officer or member of another service then they will be only too happy to show identification. If they do not have correct identification then you should not let them into your house and you should report them to the police.

“I would urge anybody with any information in relation to this crime to contact the police.”
