McCarthy annoyed at lack of Executive business in Assembly

Alliance Chief Whip Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed annoyance at the continuing lack of Executive business on the agenda at the Assembly. He said that the Executive needs to get back to work quickly and start listening to the needs of people on important issues like spiralling energy bills.

The Opposition MLA said: “Just like last week, there is no Executive business coming to the Assembly this week. There is very little Executive Business coming to the Assembly in the next few weeks and I am very annoyed about this..

“The current deadlock is hitting the people of Northern Ireland hard. The Executive parties have had a disgracefully long lazy summer holiday. The Executive has got to start meeting again now.

“We are constantly hearing of increases in the cost of living – energy, fuel and food bills. People may soon be facing a ‘heat or eat’ dilemma. The public needs assistance now, so the Executive cannot run away from tackling the important issues facing people in Northern Ireland any longer.

“Where is the delivery from the Executive? Where are the changes needed to improve Northern Ireland and improve services for people?

“I have said it before, and I will say it again – it’s time for the Executive to get back to work.”
