McCarthy anger at Derry attack on paramedic

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy MLA has expressed anger that a paramedic was kicked and punched as he attended a road crash patient on Saturday night in the Strand Road area of Londonderry. Kieran McCarthy has tabled a motion on the Assembly calling on the relevant Minister to introduce tough laws to crack down on attacks on healthcare staff and public servants.

Kieran McCarthy MLA said: “This is one of the most despicable and irrational attacks I have heard of in recent times. This was a brutal and totally mindless assault. If strong action is not taken to protect public servants we could soon be hearing even more distressing news involving our healthcare staff.

“I have tabled a motion in the Assembly to get the relevant Minister to introduce tough laws to crack down on attacks on healthcare staff and public servants. This disgusting behaviour needs to be met with strong punishments to eradicate such attacks.”
