McAlpine selected to replace Armstrong as Ards and North Down Councillor

Lorna McAlpine has been named the Alliance Party’s newest Councillor, selected to replace recently elected MLA Kellie Armstrong.

Representing the Peninsula area on Ards and North Down Borough Council, the well-known local activist, who is a Development Officer with the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education, outlined her vision for the area, with a keen interest in developing integrated education and the local tourism sector, along with protecting and promoting the environment.

Speaking after being selected by the local Alliance association, Councillor Lorna McAlpine said: “The Peninsula is an often forgotten about jewel in Northern Ireland – a jewel that I’m looking forward to protecting and promoting all it has to offer.

“I recognise the challenges facing the area, from the problems facing our rural transport network, to the erosion of our beautiful coastline and the need to attract greater employment opportunities.

“I’m proud to be following in the footsteps of Kellie Armstrong and Kieran McCarthy, who have worked hard for many years to ensure everyone across the Peninsula has access to an excellent service – a service I’ll be continuing.

“I’m also delighted to be joining the hard-working Alliance team on Ards and North Down Council, who have not only fought to ensure local government is more open and transparent, but have been a consistent voice of reason, always standing up for the core values of Alliance.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the team of dedicated Alliance Councillors across Northern Ireland, working to create a shared society, based on mutual respect and inclusive to all.”
