McAllister shocked by racist attacks in North Belfast

Alliance North Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister has expressed her shock after a series of racist attacks were carried out in the Hesketh Park area of North Belfast on Friday and Saturday.

A gang armed with knives and a hatchet threatened and attacked two Eastern European men on Friday night in the Glenbryn area. A bin was then thrown at the window of a house on Hesketh Park. On Saturday, there were reports of a group of men making threats outside another house, however by the time the Police arrived, they had left the area.

Cllr Nuala McAllister said: “I am shocked and appalled by the actions of those responsible for these attacks. They do not represent the views of the people in the local area. I know the vast majority of the local community are totally opposed to all forms of racism.

“There is no place for racism in our society. We must do more to make Northern Ireland an open and welcoming place for everyone. My thoughts go out to the victims of these incidents.

“Those who carried out these attacks are very dangerous individuals who must be urgently apprehended by the Police, so I would urge anybody with any information about these incidents to contact the PSNI.”
