McAllister saddened by death of two nuns in road accident

Alliance North Belfast Councillor Nuala McAllister has expressed her shock following the deaths of Sister Marie Duddy and Sister Frances Forde in a road accident with a Police car in Newry on Tuesday morning.

Cllr Nuala McAllister said: “I was deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of Sister Marie Duddy and Sister Frances Forde. Their deaths have shocked the local community in Belfast where they were well known and liked. I would like to express my condolences to their families and friends.

“I was taught by Sister Frances at Mercy Primary school. Sister Frances was a devoted Principal and cared deeply about the wellbeing of all of her pupils. Sister Frances leaves behind a strong community in the Mercy schools and her death is felt by both past and present teachers and pupils.

“Their deaths have, again, shown the dangers that exist on our roads. I would urge all road users to take precaution at all times whilst driving.”
