The man was at home with his father in North Circular Road when three burglars broke in, armed with a long-barrelled gun, an axe and the stun gun.
Nuala McAllister said: “This is a disgraceful attack and must be condemned by the whole community. The victims have been through a terrifying ordeal and my thoughts are with them as they continue to recover in coming days.
“I’ve been contacted by residents of the area and the message is clear – this type of behaviour is not wanted, there is no place for violence on our streets and those behind this disgusting incident must be stopped before they can strike again.
“I would urge everyone to take simple precautionary measures – including locking doors and windows – especially when you are not at home. At a recent Police and Community Liaison meeting local police officers highlighted that a number of burglaries have occurred in the area due to home security being overlooked.
“Everyone has the right to live safely in their home, without fear of attack or falling victim to theft. I would urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
